We do charge a non-refundable fee for our initial in home consultation since we are blocking out a specific time on our calendar and traveling to your home to assess the space, make recommendations, give solid design advice and direction, and put together a Fee Proposal for you. 

Most clients understand that this is a minimal cost compared to not calling in a professional from the beginning and possibly end up making costly mistakes. Clients have thanked us for the information and guidance that they receive during our consultation, and for them, it is absolutely worth the small investment into making their home one that they can be proud of.

This is a working session where we will provide you with valuable and expert guidance, ideas and information to get you on the right track with your project. We will take a tour of your entire home, and help you focus on a defined project scope. 

We discuss your style and lifestyle needs, your vision (and ours), your budget (we help you establish one if you are unsure), timeframe based on scope, manage your expectations about the process (the good and the not-so-good things that can happen and how we resolve them), review our tried design process in more detail, and details about how we work, how we bill for our services and how we manage every detail of your project.

Please note that this is a list of typical topics discussed at the consultation. Each appointment is unique and some or all of the topics listed will be discussed.

  • Onsite analysis where we get to know you and your goals, understand your needs and any specific requirements for the space.
  • Discuss initial thoughts, ideas and make suggestions for a design and style direction
  • Walk through of each room to determine your style and how you live
  • Recommendations for furniture layout 
  • Discuss a preliminary budget
  • Discuss project timeline
  • Paint color selection (a handwritten list of up to 3 colors if desired)
  • Window treatment ideas
  • Lighting ideas 
  • Ideas for new furniture and furnishings
  • Styling tips
  • Ideas on how to mix patterns, styles, antiques and heirloom pieces
  • Explanation of the design process, how we work and what to expect
  • Answer any other questions you may have

Please note that no design work, materials or furniture selections or re-arranging of furnishings will happen during this meeting. It all happens verbally. We encourage you to take notes.

The consultation is a great opportunity to get to know each other, and understand your needs better, as well as an opportunity to discuss initial ideas which we take time to develop later into a custom design plan, tailor-made for your specific needs. 

Prepare some “Inspiration Images” to review with Yildiz during your consultation to help define your design style and vision for the space.

Gather all parties involved in this design project (spouse/partner, roommate, family, children, etc.) and have a conversation about your level of investment for this project BEFORE Yildiz arrives. If you don’t know 100%, that’s okay. It’s best to discuss how much time, energy and money you think you’d like to invest into this project so that Sara can determine which design service would be best for you.
